Oklahoma Chickens

Backyard Chickens in Moore, Oklahoma

Currently banned

Backyard chickens are not currently allowed within Moore city limits. City Council unanimously voted down a proposed backyard chicken ordinance in July 2022, citing strain on animal control and public works. As of late 2024 the council was still only discussing revisiting it, and no ordinance had passed.

That could change — city councils revisit these ordinances when enough residents ask for it. If you want chickens in Moore, showing up at a council meeting or contacting your ward's council member is how prior votes here have actually shifted.

Local considerations

  • Feed and supplies: check a local Tractor Supply, Atwoods Ranch & Home, or independent feed store before ordering online.
  • Cleveland County residents can reach the OSU Extension county office for flock health and predator questions — see the OSU Extension county office directory.
  • City ordinances don't override HOA covenants — check yours separately even where the city allows chickens.
